TROUSDALE ESTATE
Location: Beverley Hills, California
Project Type: Residential
Size: 17,000 SF
Year: 2022
Service: Architecture
This project in Trousdale Estates involved designing a 17,000-square-foot residence that blends modern and classical elements, respecting the neighborhood's historic character while maximizing views of downtown Los Angeles and Century City. Our client purchased the lot in 2020, aiming to honor classic designs by renowned architects such as A. Quincy Jones and John Elgin Woolf. To comply with zoning restrictions limiting construction to a 14-foot height on the flat pad, we moved much of the program to a daylight basement, preserving yard space and integrating landscaping. The main floor is dedicated to bedrooms and entertaining areas, while a recessed patio beneath the pool and skylights provide natural light to the basement. Outdoor spaces feature large overhangs for sun protection, referencing traditional mid-century details. A curved pool serves as a focal point, with a private spa integrated into a fountain off the master bedroom.
“The challenge of this project was to elegantly site a very large single-family residence in the exclusive Trousdale Estates neighborhood. Our goal was to create a modern yet classical design that fit the historic character of the area while taking full advantage of the stunning views from downtown Los Angeles to Century City.”
