“The challenge of this project was to take an oceanfront lot that was very narrow and deep and work to fit the client’s large 6,000 SF program onto the small lot while respecting ocean and mountain views and maximizing the outdoor spaces. Working closely with the landscape designer and installed yielded a final design that is lush and tropic in feel.”

The Butterfly Beach Residence sits on a 0.33-acre beachfront property on Montecito’s prestigious Channel Drive, next to the Four Seasons Biltmore. This modern home replaces a modest existing house, maximizing the stunning location with two pools and three spas. The design features expansive sliding doors and windows that open every room to the outdoors, a steel structure for sleek profiles, and lush landscaping for privacy. The second floor is dedicated to the master suite with wraparound decks offering views of Butterfly Beach and the Channel Islands. The basement includes an extra bedroom, theater, and game room, optimizing the compact lot. The interiors provide a sophisticated yet comfortable space, with materials durable enough to withstand the wear of an oceanfront beach house while remaining elegant for formal dinner parties and quiet weekends.
